What to Expect
With cheap Hamms on tap, a jukebox stocked with the latest indie bands and no cover charge, it’s no surprise The Griffin is known as a magnet for hipsters. But don’t let that stop you from checking out this Fremont East bar. Its great ambiance, low lighting and comfy booths give this place an old Vegas feel without having to try too hard.
Whether you grab a stool at the bar or cozy up next to one of two circular fire pits, The Griffin has a relaxed vibe, friendly bartenders and a great selection of beers and booze.
Like most Fremont East bars, The Griffin gets crowded after 11 p.m., but there are plenty of places to sit and ample elbow room most of the time. If the mood strikes, head to the back room, where a DJ plays house music and guests can dance late into the night.
The Griffin may not have an obvious theme like some neighboring bars, but it doesn’t really need one. Cold cocktails, reasonably priced beer, swanky lounge seating, a rockin’ jukebox and hopefully some good conversation are enough to make The Griffin worth checking out… even if you’re not a hipster.

My observation is that if you’re looking to put a few away on a budget, go and drink the cold cheap beer. Great bartenders here! A good choice for beginning or ending a night on FSE.
Nice, but only wish their Happy Hour deals were as generous as those at Vanguard and Downtown Cocktail Room, where you can get a $14 cocktail for $7. Griffin only knocks $1 off cocktails during Happy Hour.
Great selection of draft beers, and they love their bourbon. Ordered a glass of Pappy Van Winkle 15 year, but they were out, so they gave me the 20 year instead at the same price. There’s something medieval about the ceiling and decor, but no torture here–knowledgeable, friendly bartenders, good conversation, and an excellent jukebox.
Awesome atmosphere, lot of fun and they have Hamms on tap for $3. Great place to sit down and get drunk
Went there done that
My absolute favorite spot on Fremont. Great jukebox, friendly barstaff, generous shots, stiff cocktails, and ambiance reminiscent of the Regal Beagle (from Three’s Company). I’ve never had an issue with feeling cramped or overcrowded. I always find a place to sit and rarely have to wait very long for my drink.
Really nice room with a good selection of draft beers. Comfortable and not too loud to chat. In the summer it gets a bit warm near the fireplaces – but fortunately there are cold beverages available.
Friendly service and decent prices.
Went here on a Thursday night and it wasn’t crowded at all … lots of locals hanging out and the Bartender was cool. They also have one in LA.
