What to Expect
As soon as you approach Downtown Cocktail Room, you’ll find this isn’t just another bar. The first of several surprises comes with the lack of an obvious entrance door. Simply push on the bronze part of the entryway on the left and you’re in. Don’t mistake this challenge as a sign you won’t be welcome at Downtown Cocktail Room. The bartenders and servers are typically friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
Downtown Cocktail Room is one of the swankier, cozier bars of downtown Las Vegas. Depending on when you visit, the dimly lit room typically features either piped in or DJ-supplied ambient music. The room can get loud but most of the din is supplied by customers’ voices rather than the music.
What sets Downtown Cocktail Room apart from the other bars in the Fremont East District is the variety and quality of its cocktails. One of few mixology bars in Las Vegas, Downtown Cocktail Room specializes in custom-made cocktails using fresh ingredients and homemade bitters.
You’ve probably never seen a bar menu like Downtown Cocktail Room’s. Featured cocktails include a ranking of one to four indicating the complexity of each drink, and a symbol reflecting the type of glass in which each drink is served. Cocktails with lower numbers are likely to provide a consistent, tasty flavor from start to finish. Those with higher complexity will change as your palette gets used to the flavors. A drink ranked as a four may start out smokey and end sweet.
Simply craving a PBR while hanging out with friends? No fears. Downtown Cocktail Room offers a variety of beers ranging from standard domestics like Bud Light and Sierra Nevada to exotic imports like Delirium Tremens and Chimay White.
Because of its location slightly off the beaten tourist path, Downtown Cocktail Room’s customers are mostly Las Vegas locals with only occasional out-of-towners who have sought out the lounge.
Bar snacks and appetizers supplied by the neighboring Kabob Korner are available.
For the most personal and cost-effective experience, arrive during happy hour and grab a seat at the bar. Not only will you save a few bucks, but your bartender will gladly mix custom off-menu drinks based on your individual tastes.
Before leaving, make sure to visit the restroom for a final surprise. The stalls are constructed using one-way mirrors, allowing whoever is inside the stalls to see the people waiting outside (but thankfully not vice versa).

Second time here. This place is going strong. Some of the most passionate bar tenders I’ve ever run across. Don’t do a ton of research on this one. Just go and experience. Go and be surprised and delighted. Loaded with the kind of booze and decor that brings out the hipsters, but its not a pretentious place at all. The height of what new Fremont should be, is be, and will be. The champ!
Stopped in on the recommendations of Tim & Michelle. So glad we did. Wound up going back the next night. Kevin just might be the most knowledgeable bartender of all time in terms of his craft. Tell him what you like and let him do the rest. Cool vibe and good value for what you get. Perfect get away and relax kind of spot.
Had an awesome night at the Downtown Cocktail Room, I sat down at the bar around 10 pm and ended up closing the place (around 3:30 am). One of their more experienced Bartender, Kevin, was training their newest bartender, Geoff, on their new drink menu. Both are great guys who are highly entertaining and mix fantastic drinks. While some of their original drinks were still on the menu (Water of Life, Frog Water, Dark ‘n Stormy), others were missing (The Sean Connery, DCR’s Tea Party, French 75) but had been replaced by things just as interesting (Storm the Castle – a mixed drink with an Irish Single Malt and a great Mescal cocktail who’s name I forgot). Great spot to sit at the bar and hang out for as long as you want.
Enjoyed my first visit. The music was 20% too loud, which made conversation difficult, but the atmosphere was mellow and welcoming. Service was pretty good. The entrance was baffling, despite your heads up. Several other customers commented about their own bafflement, too. Anyhoo, the wacky mirrors in the lady’s room got good reviews. Music was an eclectic mix, and my Shazam app was working overtime. Overall, a great experience, and highly recommended.
We usually sit at the bar, but it was full. Our server Yunina was great, and we still had a fantastic time. She knew the menu very well and made recommendations. If Kevin is behind the bar and you love scotch, have him make a scotch drink for you. For some people, mixing anything with scotch is blasphemy, but his scotch cocktails are some of the best drinks I’ve ever had. They’re complex and flavorful, and an adventure in a glass. The happy hour here is one of the best bargains in town–$7 for a drink you’d pay at least $14 for anywhere else.
A+++++ Best chill-out spot in LV. Lively yet relaxed. Posh but not pretentious. Great cocktail and beer offerings. And smart business operators – salty snacks are served in generous proportions inexpensively
Holy cow, what a great recommendation. Walked in and the place was nearly deserted on Monday at happy hour, but there were 2 regulars. Ended up drinking for 3+ hours and talking about life, the universe and everything. Was a great time and really enjoyed the cocktails including my first experience with absinthe.
Love this place. Delicious (and reasonably-priced by NYC standards) cocktails, great service, amazing bartenders. Won’t disappoint.
Probably the friendliest most entertaining doorman I have ever encountered. Cool room with outstanding cocktails. The bartender was like a chemist behind the bar making some unique great tasting cocktails. The washroom was a bit freaky the first time but very cool design. Headed back in 6 days
