Gold Spike Casino Bar

This weekend, we’re losing a downtown casino bar, and for once it’s not at Plaza. Downtown Project has purchased Gold Spike and is shutting it down—the hotel, the casino and, saddest of all, the bar. We never spent much time at Gold Spike, but we have a certain respect for any casino bar that offers super cheap drink. Farewell, old friend. Farewell.

In the good ol’ days, the Spike was the last place in Vegas to have penny slots (really!) and going in there was great if you had just quit smoking because every 5 minutes it was like smoking a cigarette. Many patrons had perfected the art of smoking with an oxygen machine. Farewell Spike!

Bummer. It really was a good bar. I’m on my way to Vegas right now, will have to stop in for a last pop.
