Another week, another announcement about the soon-to-be-reopened Plaza. Ever since news broke that Firefly wouldn’t be returning, we’ve been anxiously awaiting word on what will occupy the cool-ass glass-domed restaurant overlooking Fremont Street. Today, we have our answer.

Former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman is opening a steakhouse and lounge carrying his name. Oscar’s will feature meat and booze. Sounds like a winner.

We’re getting more excited about the renovated Plaza with each announcement.

One Response to Plaza Announces Oscar’s

I’m really excited about Plaza re-opening, too… however, upon my most recent visit to Las Vegas (8/7-8/11), it seemed hard to reconcile their projected grand re-opening date with the apparent lack of progress, at least from the exterior.

Our room in the Rush Tower of Golden Nugget overlooked the Plaza… the pool area (as well as the pool itself) looked unfinished and filthy, one of the tennis courts was stripped bare, some of the marquee panels were either missing or severely tarnished, hundreds of lights were burnt out.

Having said that, I know Las Vegas has the ability to pull off the seemingly impossible. I wish them luck. My wife and I LOVE the Downtown area, especially Fremont Street, so if they do get their act together, we’ll take a chance on the Plaza for our next visit.
